Purpose: To use the imprinted TiO2 ultrathin film as a part of sensor or as pre-column materials, it is indispensible to evaluate their selectivity with some structural isomers. The present study is aimed to evaluate the selectivity of 1-hydroxypyrene(1-OHP) TiO2 ultrathin film for some their isomers and to characterize some physical properties.
Materials and Methods : We made 1-OHP recognizing TiO2 ultrathin film using spin-coating method. And we compared their selectivity for pyrene, 1-OHP, and 1-pyrene carboxilic acid (1-COOHP). We used UV spectrophotometry to observe binding of guest molecules with the TiO2 film and used atomic force microscopy to observe surface of the TiO2 film.
Results: This imprinted TiO2 gel matrix was capable of discriminating the functional groups, such as the hydroxyl and carboxylic groups, and showed repeatability in binding-removal cycles.
Conclusion: Although it still needs much improvement, this imprinting process is simple, useful, and a less time-consuming way to prepare discriminative receptor cavities. This ultrathin film would be useful in developing a chemical sensor or pre-column materials for monitoring low concentrations of PAH(Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon).
